Urs Mubarak – Chura Shareef

 

The Urs mehfil is celebrated several times throughout the year, thousands of people travel from all parts of the world to pay tribute to the magnificent Khwajgaan of Chura Shareef.

 

Preparations start several weeks early, thousands of people are expected to attend the Urs, the task to ensure all necessary arrangements are made is huge.  People from all walks of life attend the Urs.  The whole of Punjab is moved by the Urs activities.

 

Day 1

 

After Asr prayers

 

Khatam Khwajgaan is recited in a congregation according to Mujaddidi tradition.  The Khatam Khwajgaan’s order was arranged by Qutbul Arshaad Baba Ji Pir Syed Haider Shah Sahib , it is gifted to the Khadim’s of Khwajgaan-e-Chura Shareef.

 

After Maghrib prayers

 

According to the Mujaddidi Tradition, the Holy Qur’an is recited magnificently by Qari’s.  In Sarhand Shareef, several Qaris recite the Noble Qur’an one after the other at the start of Urs celebration, the same ritual is adhered to at the start of Urs celebrations in Chura Shareef.

 

Naats are recited in praise of the Most Beloved Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.  Scholars deliver lectures on the teachings of Sufism.

 

Hazrat Baba Ji Sarkar deliver the presidential speech followed by a very humble and moving Dua at the end.  Salat and Salam is recited.  Langar-e-Haidderi (blessed food) is distributed amongst all those present.

 

Special arrangements are made for the thousands of people staying at the Darbaar overnight.  Exceptional measures are taken to ensure appropriate welfare of the people.

 

Day 2

 

Before Fajr prayers

 

The blessed shrines are ritually washed.  Salat and Salam is recited and Duas are made.

 

After Fajr prayers

 

Detailed Dars-e-Qur’an followed by distribution of Langar (breakfast). 

 

Thousands of Khadims march towards the Holy Shrines carrying beautiful flags embroided with Qur’anic verses which are placed on the Holy Shrines.

 

A mass gathering takes place where Tilawats and Naats are recited.  Scholars deliver speeches until Zuhr prayers.

 

Hazrat Baba Ji Sarkar deliver the presidential speech.  A special Dua is made for the benefit of the people; for peace, prosperity and happiness for the dunya and the hereafter.  Langar is distributed, people are granted permission to leave as they wish.  Thousands return to their homes with their wishes fulfilled.

 

 

Urs Mubarak UK

 

In the UK, Urs Mubarak has been celebrated every year since the late 1970’s, at various locations.  It is organised by Bazmay Churahi UK.  Initially, it was only for one day from Zuhr to Isha prayers during peak summer, lasting around 12 hours, however, due to the growing number of participants, the Urs is now organised for 2 days.  People from UK, Europe and America attend the blessed gathering.  Since 1992, Urs has been celebrated at Jamia Heddaria (Rochdale, UK); one of the many branches of Aastana Aalia Chura Shareef.  Preparations for the Urs start several days in advance, a number of assignments have to be considered; food provision and overnight stay for participants, arrangements with scholars, advertisements, etc.

 

Day 1

 

Before Asr prayers

 

Surah Yasin is recited followed by the Khatam Khwajgaan.

 

After Asr prayers

 

The Mujaddidi Tradition is practiced in the UK too, student Qaris from Jamia Heddaria and renowned Qaris from all over UK attend the gathering and recite the Holy Qur’an. 

 

After Maghrib prayers

 

Naats are recited in praise of the Most Beloved Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.  Scholars deliver lectures on the teachings of Sufism.

 

Hazrat Baba Ji Sarkar deliver the presidential speech followed by a very humble and moving Dua the end. Salat and Salam is recited. 

 

Langar-e-Haidderi (blessed food) is distributed amongst all those present.  Langar is prepared in vast quantity and is spread amongst people so they can take it home and share with their families and friends.

 

After Isha prayers

 

People who live locally are given permission to return to their homes whereas those who have travelled from distance stay in the quarters reserved for the visitors in Jamia Heddaria.  Adequate preparations are made for the people staying overnight. 

 

Day 2

 

After Fajr prayers

 

Langar (breakfast) is served to the people staying overnight.

 

At 9.00 am the mehfil begins with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an followed by Naats and speeches. The mehfil continues right through the morning until the final speech, given by Hazrat Baba Ji Sarkar.  Special Duas are made for everyone. 

Langar-e-Haidderi is served throughout the congregation.

 

After Zuhr prayers

 

People are granted permission to leave for their homes, they leave with exceptional spiritual experiences.  People are given the blessed Langar to take home to share with their families.
