On the 11 th of Rabi Ul Thani, is the Urs Mubarak of the Imam of all Auliya, the Grand Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Gillani RA, who is resting in Baghdad Shareef.
His blessed status amongst the Auliya, is that he is the Imam of Auliya, just as the Holy Prophet PBUH, is the Imam of the Prophets AS. He is known as Gaus (spiritual leader) of all Auliya, therefore he is Gaus e Azam RA, the greatest spiritual leader of all mankind, except of Prophets, Sahaba e Kiraam, Taba’een, and Taba-Taba’een, may Allah be pleased with them all.
Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, is a Hassani-Hussaini Syed. His father Hazrat Syed Abu Saleh, Jangi Dost RA was the descendent of Hazrat Imam Hassan RA and Hazrat Gaus e Azam’s blessed mother was a descendent of Hazrat Imam Hussain RA, both grandsons of the Holy Prophet PBUH.
Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, was born on the 1st of Ramadan. As a newborn, Hazrat Gaus e Azam’s RA mother stated that he would refuse to drink milk during the day, observing the fast. The news travelled fast throughout the country, that a newborn Syed is observing the fast. In the following year, the new moon was not sighted in Ramadan, so muslims travelled to the house of Hazrat Abu Saleh, Jangi Dost RA, to see if Hazrat Gaus e Azam was drinking milk, as he wasn’t this how they confirmed the arrival of Ramadan.
It is reported that when Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, was sent to learn the Holy Quran, when the teacher started with the word ‘Bismillah’, Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA recited this and the first 18 Paras, to the astonishment of the teacher, who enquired where he had learnt this. Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA replied that he had learn the first 18 Paras from his blessed mothers womb, when she was reciting the Holy Quran, he learn this by heart, Subhan Allah!

A Karamat of any Wali e Kamil is to be steadfast on the Sharia and have love for the Holy Prophet PBUH.
A very famous incident that is associated with Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, though narrations vary, the incident is about the old lady who was very pious, Allah SWT blessed her with a son in her old age. Being her only child she was very fond of him and raised him as best as she could. When he grew into a young man, the lady arranged his wedding. This was the best day in the old lady’s life. When the Baraat (procession) was travelling to Bride’s house they crossed a river, the boat with many passengers and the groom drowned. The old lady survived and was very upset on the loss of her son.
She travelled to Baghdad Shareef, to the Shrine of the Hazrat Gaus e Azam, where she prayed continuously and asked for the help of Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA. Approximately 12 years later, she had a vision and Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA advised her to return to the river, when she did she saw that Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA with the mercy of Allah SWT, raised the boat with all the passengers and groom still alive.
The grooms name was Sheikh Syed Kabbir Ud Din RA who is fondly known as Shah Dulha Darayai RA (Groom of the River), his shrine is a located in Gujrat, in Pakistan, and he became a great wali of his time. Amazingly, it is reported that as he was raised again by Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, Syed Kabbir Ud Din, Shah Dulha Darayai RA, lived for over 400 years!
Significance of Ghiyarvee Shareef
Many Muslims throughout the world, celebrate the 11 th of every Islamic month known as Ghiyarvee Shareef to gain the blessings of Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA. Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, himself celebrated the 11 th of every month in their life – as the Milaad e Paak of the Holy Prophet PBUH.
It is reported that on the birth of Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, in the area of Gillan, 1100 males babies were born as a blessing from Allah SWT.
Hazrat Mirza Mazhar Jan e Janna RA, a sheikh of the Naqsbhandi Mujaddidi Silsila has reported to have seen the Holy Prophet PBUH, accompanied by the Sahaba e Kiraam in his dream on the night of the 11 th Rabi Ul Thani. The Holy Prophet PBUH, stated that they are going to celebrate the Urs Paak of their grandson Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA.
Imam e Rabbani, Hazrat Syed Abdul Qadir Gillani RA faiz to Tareeqa e Nashbandiya
Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA was once travelling, when he suddenly stopped and faced in the direction of Bukhara. Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, stated that in this direction, in the city of Bukhara after many years, my son Bahuddin will be born, and I am giving him his faiz in advance. This is how Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, gave faiz to Hazrat Syed Muhammad Bahuddin Shah Naqshband RA.
Hazrat Shah Naqshband RA was once travelling in the desert and met Hazrat Khizr Badshah (May Allah be pleased with him) who immediately transported him to the spiritual presence of Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, Hazrat Shah Naqshband gave his hand to the hands of Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA.
Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA put their blessed hands on the heart of Hazrat Shah Naqshband RA and stated “O the holder of the adornment of the worlds, hold my adornment, so that they can call you Naqshband (the one who adorns)” and Hazrat Shah Naqshband RA recited the following poem, which is inscribed in the tomb of Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA in Baghdad Shareef, and on the tomb of Hazrat Shah Naqshband RA in Bukhara Shareef;
“The King of this world and the hereafter is Shah Abdul Qadir, The head of the children of Adam is Shah Abdul Qadir, Sun, moon, heavens, the throne and the pen, They all got their light from the heart of Shah Abdul Qadir”
The above poem in the praise of Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, can also be found inscribed at Chura Shareef. The blessed Sheikhs of Chura Shareef, Hazrat Bawa Ji Syed Nur Muhammad RA and family, are the direct descendents of Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA which make them Gillani Syeds, their spiritual lineage can be traced back to Hazrat Shah Naqshband RA.
Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, gave their blessed cloak and asked for it to be passed down through the generations to Hazrat Mujaddid e Alf Thani RA, who were born over 400 years later, in Sirhind Shareef.
May Allah SWT give us all the blessings of Imam e Auliaya – Hazrat Gaus e Azam RA, grant us the blessings of Hazrat Shah Naqshband RA, and give us the eternal faiz of the Mashaykh of Chura Shareef.
We are very fortunate that our Murshid, Baba Ji Sarkar, Pir Syed Muhammad Shabbir Ali Shah Gillani, is a descendent of Hazrat Gaus e Azam and has the faiz of Hazrat Shah Naqshband RA, Hazrat Mujaddid e Paak RA.
